essays > Wisdom

Following on from thoughts about being an Elder, I  came to wonder what was Wisdom?

It is not a product of knowledge, though what use  would wisdom be without knowledge?
It is not a product of experience, though what use  would wisdom be without experience?
It is not a product of the passing years, though the Gods know we could use more of it in our youth.
Is it a bequest of the Gods? And if so, when and why is it so given?
Is it inherited from our antecedents, and if so why would all siblings not receive it?

I think of those whom I perceive as wise, and find I  cannot really say why I see them that way. It a  presence that I feel when near them; it is knowing  that they will have an insight when it comes to  knowing what to do. It is being secure in feeling that  if things go wrong, the wise one will remain calm. But  probably the most important quality they possess is that of compassion.

I have the sense that even when they are not actually doing anything, the sage is making a difference in the world.

Of course, I am sure that each of those people that I see as wise would be quite surprised to know that I see them that way.

Love and Bright Blessings
