Men's rituals - rituals which explore men's mysteries - are hard to find. At one time they would have been enacted by the men of the tribe so that every man in that tribe knew what the tribe's male rituals were. Now, in our western society, we have lost our knowledge of what makes us men. It is up to us - to all of us - to attempt to reclaim that knowledge. Much of it is buried deep within us at a deep intuitive level, but we are either afraid to look, or don't take the time to explore what we understand of maleness and how to share that knowledge with others.
To give you ideas to develop your own men's ritual, some thoughts are provided below. I will add to this as my knowledge and understanding grows and I take the time to search for the answers - but for now, this is it:
Other men's ritual possibilities (other than rites of passage) could include things such as: celebration of the solar wheel (sabbats). With the four solar celebrations; Yule, Eostre, Litha and Mabon having a male growth cycle aspect.
So, for instance, the cycle might run something like:
Yule: birth or death. The spark of life within the death of winter.
Eostre: spring equinox. balance of light and dark, youth?
Litha: summer solstice. sun at its height. adulthood.
Mabon: autumn equinox. beginnings of decay. Old age.
another possibility for men's ritual is the different aspects of manhood:
warrior
healer
shaman
lover
father
leader
teacher
-to understand the energy of each, what each aspect can teach us, and to understand that old-age incorporates all of them, has all of them as experiences, understands each as a positive aspect of manhood, and thus such an elder may be called a wise-man.
some male-orientated stuff I have been to that may help (ideas-wise):
maybe someone should write a book on men's rituals - I for one would buy it. There seems to be very little out there, and so we must make it up as we go, and find what works and what doesn't. If we don't try, how will we grow in understanding of who we are?
